And so the countdown begins. There are 12 days until I will be leaving for Slovenia with my teammates. I am so excited to announce that I have reached my fundraising goal for Slovenia. Thank you to everyone who helped me reach this goal, I am so grateful!
Through the fundraising process I learned a lot about trusting in God’s timing and not my timing. I also got to witness how faithful he is when you have nothing to do but trust him. It definitely was not an easy lesson to learn but it was one that forced me to grow and let go of always needing control. I was nervous throughout this process because if I did not raise all of the funds then I would not be able to go. I started to question if this was really the path God had paved for me. But I continually had to push past the doubt that was being planted in my head by the enemy and be all in for God’s plan. It is so rewarding being on the other side.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 NIV
Just a matter of weeks before I leave, my college group started to do a series over Acts and following God’s calling. A lot of the time we pray for God to give us opportunities. God gives us those opportunities but we fail to recognize them. We hope that we will have a flashing billboard pointing us in the right direction. Or sometimes we recognize that the opportunity has been presented to us but we refuse to act upon it because we are too afraid. There have been so many times that I have sat back and not acted because I was scared of what other people would think. But the times I did take advantage of the opportunities I had prayed for proved to be perfectly timed – God’s timing.
Before I made the decision to intern with WorldWide Witness I found myself being held back because of the expenses. As I continued to pray to God I kept hearing him tell me to “Go.” I realized that all was holding me back was the fact that it would be a costly expense. I thought, how sad would it be if I said no to an opportunity because of money? As a current college student, money is something that I do not have a lot of but why should that be the ultimate factor? How little did I think my God was? I had been told time and time again how big and awesome God was but my actions were not reflecting that.If I believe God to be as powerful as he is, then I knew for a fact that no earthly or human intervention would prevent God from providing. I figured that it was time to act upon how faithful I believed God to be, and so I took the leap of faith.
One mountain has been conquered and I am ready for the next one. I am ready for the new relationships I am going to build. It’s crazy to think that I will shortly be surrounded by people that I haven’t even met yet, but will have a huge impact on my life. I am ready for God to use my as a vessel to help build his Kingdom.
As my pastor has challenged, are you going to push continue, or exit? Are you going to push those overwhelming doubts aside or throw in the towel because the odds seem stacked against you? It seems like you have a decision to make.
Hannah, what a beautiful testimony you have just laid out in your blog. I am so proud of you for following God’s plan and trusting in him for this adventure in your life. I can’t wait to hear about your struggles, your joys, your life experience you bring from this opportunity. You are such a bright young lady and I feel honored to know you!
